This ancient Japanese matchlock was converted in the 1870s to take a Murata Style single shot bolt action system attached to its original smoothbore matchlock barrel

The blade has some staining and small nicks

and oak leaves on the other

which are partly inlaid with gold

The ricasso is faintly marked with No7 MK 1 L, for bayonet number seven, mark one, land service. The opposite side of the ricasso is stamped with the broad arrow mark.
