The 2009 Barbaresco is absolutely remarkable for the way it carersses the palate with endless layers of sweet red fruit

the 2011 is likely to offer its best drinking over the next few years

This has a touch of the exotic on the finish but not much

I imagine it will still be fabulous at age 30

backward and brooding nose reluctantly gives up hints of very earthy dark pinot fruit nuanced by a distinct animale hint that merges into broad-shouldered flavors that offer excellent volume and concentration that finishes with just a hint of dryness and plenty of minerality

The highly refined and punchy middle weight flavors possess a lovely sense of minerality before delivering fine length on the slightly lean, dusty and austere finale. This elegant effort is coming along very nicely and it has reached a stage that could certainly be enjoyed now but for my taste I would allow this another 4 to 6
