This is a focused effort that exhibits controlled power and a lovely sense of underlying tension
the 1999 is somewhat one-dimensional and not likely to improve considerably from here
It also shows a slightly roasted quality it has always had that is a hallmark of this warm vintage
on the other hand is fabulous
Weinbach, Pinot Gris Altenbourg SGN Vintage:2007 (from 5 different parcels located(for 375 ml.; 9. 9% alcohol, 161 g l r. s. and 10 grams of acidity) Deep yellow gold. Carnal, exotic aromas of orange blossom, game, smoke and earth. Superripe, thick and powerful, but given great penetration by almost painful acidity. Wonderfully dense and concentrated wine with a tactile, salty finish that refuses to let up. Like the '07 Riesling SGN, this is just hinting at the complexity to come. Stephen Tanzer
